Emblem of Burkina Faso

After the revolution and a change of the name from Upper Volta to Burkina Faso, the national flag of Burkina Faso was adopted in 1984. Two equal horizontal stripes of red on the top and green on the bottom, with a yellow five-pointed star in the center, feature a red reverse. This red symbolizes the red of the revolutionary struggle for independence and the sacrifices of the Burkinabe people. The green represents hope and abundant agricultural resources, which is significant in the country's economy. The yellow star represents unity in various ethnic groups that constitute Burkina Faso and is based on the country's motto, 'Unity, Progress and Justice.'
