Cape Verde's national flag is a representation in colors of the country's presence of mind through its geography and ambitions. The flag was adopted on September 22, 1992, with a blue field that represents the Archipelago's extensive being surrounded by the vast Atlantic Ocean. A white band on the flag indicates peace, a red band effort and determination, and a second white band signifies peace. The ten yellow stars surround the red stripe and form a circle in which it lies, symbolizing the ten main islands of Cape Verde country.
