Collective Security Treaty Organization is an intergovernmental organization of nine former Soviet republics; the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) consists of nine former Soviet republics. On December 8 1991, it was created to promote economic cooperation and integration among its members. One flag of the CIS has a light blue background and a yellow sun, as the sun represents prosperity and friendship between the member states. The top and bottom, which are indicated with yellow stripes, indicate the stability and unity of the organization.
