The Commonwealth of Nations, commonly known as the Commonwealth, is an intergovernmental organization made up of 54 member states, primarily consisting of former colonies of the British Empire and other British Dominions. The organization was set up on April 26, 1949, for the cooperation and development of its members. The union of the globe (gold) is represented on its blue background as the hallmark of global unity. The globe is surrounded by stars representing member nations' diversity and common sharing.
