Bhutan's first king, Jigme Dori Wang chuck, adopted a national flag in 1969. It is a white dragon set on a yellow and orange base, and the white dragon holds jewels in its claws, which stand for the wealth and prosperity of their nation. Purity and loyalty to the monarchy are the meaning of white color. Bhutan is predominantly Buddhist and, therefore, is represented by the orange.
