Dominica adopted the national flag on November 3, 1978, the same day the country became independent from Britain. The disc is central and is divided into three equal parts: yellow (top), black (middle), and white (bottom) on a green background. The yellow Foundation represents sunshine, black represents the fertile soil, and white symbolizes the pure water resources. The center parrot is a symbol of the Sisserou Parrot.
