The Djiboutian flag was adopted on June 27, 1977, after independence from France. Two equal horizontal bands of white (top) and light blue with a red triangle at the hoist bearing a yellow, five-pointed star. The colors mean that white sand is for peace, blurs the country's proximity to the Red Sea, and green is for hope and flirty. The star of the red triangle represents the different ethnic groups united in Djibouti.
