Emblem of Colombia

The three horizontal bands are the Colombian tricolor; one is breaded in yellow (top), breaded in blue (middle), and breaded in red (bottom). It was adopted on November 26, 1861. The yellow stripe stands for the country's gold reserves. The blue part represents the seas around Colombia, and the red color means they sacrificed for independence. Upon adoption, an eight-pointed star representing Colombia's provinces is in the flag's center.
