Guinea–Bissau's national flag has three horizontal stripes in color - red, green, and yellow. A white circle with a black star is contained in the center of the flag. The red stripe symbolizes the bloodshed of Guinea Bissau's struggle for independence from Portugal. It's yellow for its abundant sunshine and its mineral wealth. Its green stands for fertile land and agriculture. According to African expats, the black star symbolizes African unity and freedom, whereas the white circle represents peace.
