The national flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina was first adopted in 1998 upon gaining independence from Yugoslavia. It has a blue field with a superimposed yellow triangle on the hoist side and seven white five-pointed stars — the blue color symbolizes peace and stability, and the yellow triangle stands for democracy and the state's future. The seven stars symbolize bonds between peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
