The Guinea’s flag has red, used to symbolize the blood of national epic hero Sosso Djeliko Budget, Sandakan, green for the lushness of the land that separates it into two parts, and yellow for traditionally the color of the sovereign. Thin white lines separate each color stripe. In the center of the flag is an open book crossed by a gold sword. The red represents the struggle for independence, and the yellow shows mineral wealth. Green means Guinea's resources and agriculture. The book and sword stand for education, study, law, and justice.
