Peru's national flag consists of three vertical stripes of red on the left-hand side, white in the middle, and red on the right-hand side. A coat of arms with an Andean condor carrying a laurel wreath and crossed flags, representing (or an Andean condor holding a laurel wreath and crossed flags, before which are two red stripes), appears in the middle of these two red stripes and symbolizes the country's determination and strength. The red stripes represent the blood shed by those who fought for the independence of Peru, while the white represents peace and purity.
