The Austrian flag consists of a simple horizontal triband of red-white-red. The colors were inspired, it is said, by the coat of arms of the House of Habsburg, one of the most influential royal houses in Europe. After World War II, on May 1, 1945, the current design was adopted. The design has been used since 1230 as the official banner of the Duchy of Austria.
