November 3, 1978, also the day Dominica gained independence from Britain, was the day the national flag arrived. Yellow (top), black (middle), and white (bottom) make up the three equal divisions of the central disc set against a green backdrop. White stands for the pure water supplies; black for the rich soil; and the yellow foundation for sunshine. An emblem of the Sisserou Parrot is the centre parrot.
