Flag Detail
Afghanistan's national flag has a history of being adopted since 1747 when Ahmad Shah Durrani, the first ruler of the Durrani Empire, selected a black, red and green tricolor as the official flag. This means pan-Iranian colors denote unity between various nationalities inside the empire. Over time, Afghanistan recognized various problems regarding the government and ruling dynasties, which consequently changed the Afghanistan flag. The existing tricolor was given a white stripe and later renamed 'peace among the tribes' in 1880 in Amir Ahmad Abhor Rahman Khan's reign. In 1901, King Habibullah Khan outlined a new design in which the royal seal was the central emblem on a white background.
