Flag Detail
Originally flown in 1747, the national flag of Afghanistan has evolved from the black, red and green tricolor chosen by Ahmad Shah Durrani, the first king of the Durrani Empire. Pan-Iranian colors thus represent unity among many nationalities within the empire. Afghanistan changed its flag as it came to see different issues with the government and ruling dynasties throughout time. Originally called "peace among the tribes," the current tricolor was given a white stripe under Amir Ahmad Abhor Rahman Khan's rule in 1880. King Habibullah Khan presented a fresh design in 1901 whereby the royal seal took front stage on a white background.
