Flag Detail
On July 3, 1962, Algeria adopted its national flag as it came free from French colonial control. Its two vertical stripes are white to the fly and green to the hoist. In the middle of the flag, embroider a moon and a star. Algerians find great meaning in the colours and symbols on this flag. Green stands for Islam; white stands for peace and purity; the Red Crescent moon and star show Islam and are shown on many flags of nations with the majority of Muslims. Still, this flag connects and symbolises the fight for Algerian independence.
