Half of the Honduran flag is blue, half is white, and the other half is blue. Five X-shaped blue stars span the white stripe. As far as anyone can tell, the two blue stripes stand for the oceans that Honduras shares with the Pacific and the Caribbean. The white stripe speaks of harmony and riches. Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Honduras—five Central American nations that joined under a federation in 1821—got five stars. The X also stands for peace among these nations.
