The Austrian flag just features a basic horizontal triband of red-white-red. The coat of arms of the House of Habsburg, one of the most powerful royal houses in Europe, reportedly inspired the hues. The present design was chosen on May 1, 1945, following World War II. From 1230, the design has been the official Duchy of Austria.
