Arizona's flag, like its official one, is red with a yellow sunburst in the middle. The thirteen rays that comprise the sunburst are intended to pay homage to the thirteen American colonies established here. The red field stands in for the blood lost by American soldiers in the Civil War; our climate is sunny, and the sunburst shows this.
