Flag of Heard Island and McDonald Islands
Heard Island and the McDonald Islands do not have their own separate national flag. They are an external territory of Australia, so the Australian flag is used as the official flag of the territory. These islands are located in the southern Indian Ocean and are among the most remote places on Earth. They are uninhabited and are mainly used for scientific research and environmental protection.
Because there is no permanent population and no local government, there has never been a need to create a separate territorial flag.
